Fun in Fall!

We are having fun this fall! In October we took our very first kindergarten field trip to the pumpkin patch. We had so much fun! We got to see animals, pick a pumpkin, play in the corn pit and even ride the cow train. We have also celebrated Jumpstart to Read and we read Bunnycakes with lots of boys and girls around the nation. We learned about healthy choices for our bodies during Red Ribbon Week as well. It has been a great month full of excitement! We are looking forward to November and learning a about the very first Thanksgiving.

Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom! We are having FUN! in Mrs. Snead's room!

This week our theme was from the book Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom by Bill Martin Jr.

We love this book! I bet you have heard your  little darlings singing "Chicka, Chicka, Boom Boom. Will there be enough room?" this week. In the book, the letters in the alphabet climb to the top of the coconut tree and there isn't enough room, so they all fall out.

Since the story is about a coconut tree, we decided to do a little investigation on coconuts. Mrs. Snead brought a REAL coconut to class and cracked it open. She had to use a hammer and a screwdriver to crack the shell! We found out that coconuts have liquid in them and they smell yummy! We even got to try a little shredded coconut for ourselves.  It was a little messy, but we loved it!

Kindergarten is so much fun!

We have been having so fun  in our first few weeks of kindergarten! We are learning so much and it is so great to see all those sweet smiling faces coming down the hall every morning.

Our color days have just flown by! We have learned 10 new color words! We have loved singing the songs everyday to help us learn how to spell our new color words. We have also just finished up our very first story in our reading series and we have done great with that! They are experts in rhyming words!

We have also LOVED! going to see coach in P.E. everyday! I also have a lot of little music lovers in my room this year. They have loved seeing Ms. Scott in music class. We met Dr. Booklove in the library this week and she taught us how to care for library books and even let us check out our very first library books!

I hope you are enjoying kindergarten just as much as we are! Here are a few pictures I managed to capture during our busy, busy week! :)

Thank you for sharing your child with me,
Mrs. Snead

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Hi to all my new kinder kids and families! I am so excited for a new year in kindergarten. It's going to be great and you are going to have so much fun! We will  be learning about letters and numbers, playing outside, dancing, painting, writing and reading, and much, much more!

I am so glad you were to able to visit our classroom blog. I update it throughout the year with pictures and information about what we have been doing in our room. Take a look around and click on the tabs at the top. Our classroom is getting a brad new air conditioner so we will be nice and cool on these hot days. Since it's still under construction for a few more days, I won't be able to post new pictures of our classroom, but will do so as soon as it's ready. Not to worry though,  our room will be beautiful and ready with your name on your very own seat and cubby before I get to meet you all at meet your teacher day.

Our meet your teacher day Monday August 11th from 11:00-12:00.  Parents feel free to bring your child's supplies that day.  Our parent orientation is just for parents and is August 10th 2:00 for English and 4:00 for Spanish. I can't wait to see you all!

Can't believe it's almost over!

Gosh! Here we are almost to the end of this year in kindergarten! I can't believe it! Seems like a month ago I was meeting and just starting to fall in love with 18 beautiful, sweet, smart, smiling kiddos! Our time is just about over and I will be sending these taller, smarter, sweeter "big" kids on to first grade. Wow! Time flies when you are having fun!

As you may know, with the end of the year, comes lots of paper work and activities. Please be checking your child's folder for important papers and dates! Here are a few things that will be coming our way very soon!

April 29- Field Trip to the B-ham zoo. As long as the weather holds out.

May 13- We will get to visit the first grade school. This little trip will help show the kids the new school they will be going to next year and get them use to the idea of going to a new school. We will get to tour the first grade rooms, the gym, lunchroom and library. We will also meet the principal.

May 13- This is the big event! We will graduate kindergarten!!!! It will be at the fine arts center. Be there early for good seats! It is precious!!!

Also, there are special days just for our class that I will be letting you know about soon.

I always like to leave with just a few pics of what we have been up to at school since the last time I posted. :) Check us out!

Up, Up and away on transportation day!
Yeah! I will do anything for my kids! :)

During all this winter weather, we were able to celebrate the 100th day of kindergarten! We are all 100 days smarter! We celebrated the 100th day by counting to 100 in many ways, working on 100 day center activities, preforming 100 different exercises, and making hats to cap off this special day!

Check us out!

Sorry for the little break! :) We have been so busy learning so many new things, taking field trips, celebrating and most recently getting excited about the big man in red coming!

Here are a few things we have been learning about in our room:

* Most all of us know our letters and letter sounds.
*If you haven't noticed yet, we are starting to read little words all by ourselves!
* We have learned our numbers 0-10, started learning how to add to 10, we can count by 10s, and count to 20 without help (some days we can make is further).
*We all know our birthdays!
* We have learned how to draw a story and write a sentence about our story!
*We know words like main idea, characters, compare and contrast, and adjective in reading.
*We know math words like addition, ten frame, number words, and shape words.
*We have learned how to be a peacemaker with our friends and I am proud to say that almost everyday all my friends are on green or purple!

As you can see, we have been super busy and learning lots! I have heard from a lot of my parents that you are amazed at what your baby is learning! I have added some pictures from our field trip to the pumpkin patch and some things we have been doing here at BSLK. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving break! I am so thankful God has given me a job I love! I am also thankful to all of you for sharing your babies with me everyday! They are so special! Thank you!
