What a COLORFUL week!

We have had such a wonderful colorful week! We have looked at  the colors brown, red, yellow, green, blue, purple and white all this week! And next week starts a whole new color week! Your child should now know those colors and begin to recognize these words. Thanks to my parents for sending and who will be sending our special color day snacks. We have had such fun singing color songs, eating special snacks, and making our brown bear book. We even mixed the colors yellow and blue together with a marshmallow to see what color it made. Guess what, it made green! After we painted with our green marshmallows (don't worry parents, it was food coloring) we got to eat them! yum!
We have learned so much this week and  there is more to come! Below is a picture of our classroom promise. We say this every morning when we start our day. We are working very hard on learning how to be a peacemaker at school and at home. I am so proud of them! It is so important to me for my students to learn how to treat each other in our classroom and I believe that the better we know and learn our rules at school the more we can learn! Please hug them all for me, I have missed them this weekend. Looking forward to seeing them Monday morning. Monday we will be learning about the color black!
B-L-A-C-K, that's how you spell black!(yes, my sweet husband has gotten to hear me sing our great color songs all week. The joys of being married to a kindergarten teacher)

What a great first week!

Well, the first week of kindergarten is over. We had an awesome week. My kids are such sweeties and so excited about our year together. We spent a lot of time this week getting to know each other, learning our classroom rules, and of course, reading The Kissing Hand. We searched all over our school for Chester the Raccoon!  We missed him, but he did leave us a yummy snack in our room before he left ;)  We also learned about being a peacemaker. Our school has a school wide rule, follow the Golden Rule. How simple is that?! Peacemakers follow the Golden Rule. The kids have loved acting out being a peacemaker at school. We also made a classroom promise! It's just so cute and they are so proud of themselves. I will post pics later this week. We will be talking about being a peacemaker a lot more these first nine weeks of school.
This next week we are starting our Scott Foresman reading unit, literacy centers, eating lunch in our lunchroom, P.E. everyday, and our color/color word units. Wow! Lots to do! Monday is the color brown so don't forget to wear the color brown and parents if you are in charge of our special color snack (chocolate teddy grahams) please don't forget to send them! :) It's going to be another great week!

Nice to Meet you!

Parents, it was so nice to meet all of you tonight! I am so looking forward to seeing all your sweet children on Thursday. Remember our "meet and greet" is from 2-3 on Thursday. If you did not bring your child's supplies tonight or pay the $30 fee you may do all of this on Thursday as well. Please try to do this before the first day of school. That helps me a ton! I  hope you have time to read through all the material I sent home and if there are any questions please ask! :) I will be glad to help you out with anything. You can ask at our "meet and greet" or just shoot me an email, asnead@albertk12.org. Here are just a few things that I may have missed going over:

  • Your child will need to be picked up no later than 11:00 the whole week of Aug 15th. We will pick up in the front of the school and please make sure to have your visor tag where we can see it. Just know it will be crazy, but it will get better :)
  • Please make sure your child wears the name tag that I sent home in the folder. This will help everyone.
  • The baggie that was in your folder is for a change of clothes to leave at school. Please send a change of clothes back to school in that baggie. We will change them out with the seasons.
  • Lunch and snack money should never be sent together. They go to different people.  We will start selling snack on the 2nd week of school.
  • Your child may not bring home their home folder the first few days of school. Once we get everything running smoothly, it will be in there everyday!
I think that is it. I am so excited about another great school year! If you think of anything to ask me or you think I should know about your child, please contact me. Thanks for coming !!!

Welcome to the blog world Mrs. Snead!

So here it is my new classroom blog! I am kind of proud of it. I am really looking forward to using it in my classroom this year and just know that I am going to get better and better at this "blogging" thing. :)  I plan to post what we are learning in my classroom during the year, important information for my parents, and things that just come up when you teach kindergarten students. They always make me smile! Looking forward to starting another great year!
